Winter Wonderland
Today was one of the greatest winter wonderlands I've seen since I've been in Chicago. So, instead of writing about it, I thought I'd do a photo essay instead.
And then there was the walk home in the orange of the urban night. It actually seemed light outside because of the glow casting off the snow. Despite the facts that my feet were wet and frozen, my hand cracking off from hypothermia, and I was so hungry I was ready to cry (It's Lent ya know), I could walk through this scene every night and be thrilled. At least until the end of the week.
I couldn't pass this one up. I'm a sucker for structure. And geometry. Except for cosines.
And while I was getting the ice fence, I saw this picture. Also no playing with editing on this one. I love that kind of arc of color working through the picture going right to left.
And then I kinda got obsessed with the back-lit trees. No editing here either. I find it striking that these reds, oranges, and yellows exist at night. Not naturally, mind you, but still. Red seems so "morning" to me, so to see this picture along with the definition of the branches highlighted by the snow was gorgeous.
And finally, I'm home. My feet are wet but somehow this scene captured for me everything that was great about this night. The scene was ordinary but the setting the snow conjured was so rare. Funny how it takes a blizzard for you to see the details that have been sitting in front of you for the past two years. Everything looked beautiful tonight.

Anyway, thanks :)
